Game NotesKiltimagh headed into their first season in Division 1 with the aim of retaining their position in Division 1 for 2019. After 5 games, Kiltimagh now have that objective secured and instead of watching the teams underneath them, they are now looking at the teams above them. And only one team have secured more points than Kiltimagh so far in Division 1 and that is Castlebar. This game was not a game the experts would have tipped for Kiltimagh but the momentum from their last 3 league wins had Kiltimagh in fine fettle going into this clash. What a game this was, 5 goals, Kiltimagh losing one of their key midfielders after 13 minutes, Kiltimagh going into an 11 point lead only to be pegged back to 2, goalies knocking over 45s and then pulling off point blank saves, and, of course, some wonderful points. While this was a starred game and Breaffy had to play without their County stars, Kiltimagh had 4 players who had lined out with Mayo Junior team on Wednesday night and each of them started this game tonight. There was nothing to choose between the teams in the first quarter as they traded points. Tomas Keegan started off the scoring with a free and then Breaffy levelled. Jamie McNicholas then slotted a 45 but Breaffy responded with 2 points, Robbie Hennelly following McNicholas with a 45 of his own, before Keegan levelled with another free. A beautiful Keegan point from play then nudged Kiltimagh ahead again before Breaffy equalised once more. Sean Forkan pointed Kiltimagh ahead again soon after and Cillian Finn then hit a cracker of a goal to put some daylight between the sides. Finn had a wonderful hour in a Kiltimagh shirt and finished up with a personal tally of 1-2 but this was a really important score in the course of this game as Kiltimagh were on top but unable to translate that on to the scoreboard. The teams then exchanged points before the break, with David Lydon scoring Kiltimagh’s point and Kiltimagh led by 4, 1-6 to 0-5, at the break. Things got more bizarre after the break as Kiltimagh hit Breaffy for 2 goals and a point before Breaffy realised the game had restarted. Now 11 points ahead, Kiltimagh could not believe what was happening. Breaffy hit back with a point and then they struck for a goal of their own. Another Keegan point was to be Kiltimagh’s last score for 20 minutes as Breaffy overran Kiltimagh at times and their 5 points without reply probably wasn’t a fair reflection of their dominance at this point. With just 3 points between the sides, Liam Lydon stretched that out to 4 with 2 minutes remaining. A Cillian Finn point seemed to make the game safe, 3 minutes into injury time, but a Breaffy goal shortly afterwards had the Kiltimagh supporters shuffling in their seats. However, a Keegan free, 6 minutes into injury time, closed out the scoring and sealed a great Kiltimagh win.
