Game NotesKiltimagh’s poor first half performance left them with too much to do in the second half to turn the game around but they certainly gave it their best shot. Kiltimagh overcame a poor first half performance against Moygownagh but Westport were a different detail. Westport got the first score and Dylan Roache levelled matters soon after. That was to be Kiltimagh’s last score for 20 minutes as Westport dominated the game and Kiltimagh found it difficult to get out of their own half. When they did, they squandered the chances they created or turned over possession cheaply. Westport hit 2-3 before Kiltimagh scored again and that was a goal from Owen Carroll. That goal left only 2 goals between the teams but Westport tagged on 2 more points before the break to lead 2-6 to 1-1 at half time. Kiltimagh were a different team in the second half. Damien Gallagher kicked a great point and then Owen Carroll and Jamie Kearney followed that with points. A great run up the field by Conor Mallee saw him finish to the net and now there was only 2 points between the sides. However, when a blatant foul on Keith Cummins went unpunished, Westport managed to break up the field and win a penalty. The penalty was converted to leave Westport firmly in control once again. Another point from Damien Gallagher narrowed the gap but Westport soon cancelled that. Kiltimagh were all over Westport at this point but could not get the goal they needed. A lovely point from Ciaran Mulderring had the gap back to 4 but that was as good as it got for Kiltimagh as the teams traded points in the final stages with Owen Carroll kicking the final score of the game. If Kiltimagh had played all through as they did in the second half then there is no doubt they would be County Junior B champions but it was not to be.
