Game NotesKiltimagh were made to sweat in this second round clash with Lahardane as Lahardane put it up to them right to the final whistle, which came after 10 minutes of injury time. Lahardane started very brightly and, although an Eoghan Lavin free got Kiltimagh up and running, 3 points on the trot saw Lahardane lead 0-3 to 0-1 after 12 minutes. Kiltimagh began to take charge at that point and points from Paul Kelly, Cian Gallagher, Tomas Keegan and Dylan Roache had their noses in front after 25
minutes. The teams then traded points over the remaining stages of the first half.
Lahadane reduced the lead to 1 but the Lavin stretched it back out to 2. 2 further
points from Lahardane to a Kiltimagh point from Cian Gallagher left just the bare
minimum between the sides at the break. Kiltimagh started the second half much
better than they did the first and points from Sean Forkan and Paul Kelly put some
daylight between the sides. Lahardane weren’t going to be shaken off however and
they stuck right in there, reducing the gap to a point. Further points from Lavin and
Keegan brought the lead out to 4 and it looked like Kiltimagh might kick for home at
that point. However, it was Lahardane who kicked on instead. 3 points without reply
and Kiltimagh looked rattled. Lahardane were also through one on one with Michael
Schlingermann only to see the well struck shot rebound off the crossbar. Eoghan
Lavin steadied the ship with a great point but again Lahardane replied with a point of
their own. With 5 minutes on the clock, the gap was down to a point. An Eoghan
Lavin free extrended the lead to 2 and as we entered what turned out to be 10
minutes of injury time, Lahardane pressed dangerously for the goal that would win
them the match. Kiltimagh were almost in for a goal but Ronan Malee was hauled
down. Malee dusted himself off and took the resulting free and Kiltimagh’s lead was
now 3 points. Kiltimagh were under pressure in the final minutes and Paul Kelly
picked up a black card when he ensured the Lahardane player would not get into a
dangerous position in front of goal. Kiltimagh made the game safe in the dying
moments when Sean Walsh fisted over a high dropping ball. This was a nervy win
for Kiltimagh and the standard will have to up considerably if they are to progress
further and get to a 3 rd County Final in 4 years.
